Georgia's Worksite Health Initiative

The mission of Georgia’s Worksite Health Initiative is to reduce the burden of diseases by helping Georgia businesses create worksite environments that maintain and improve the health of their employees. The Initiative aims to provide leadership in the area of worksite health promotion and drive a statewide effort through the following:

  • Resource development and technical assistance;
  • Data collection and reporting;
  • Establishment of model worksites;
  • State-level partnerships to support worksite efforts.

Resource Development and Technical Assistance

As the state entity with a focus on worksite health, the Initiative provides guidance to wellness professionals and businesses on best-practices. Working closely with local Public Health Districts, the Initiative disseminates resource materials and provides training on worksite health statewide. This includes development of the Work Healthy Georgia toolkit (coming soon), which provides strategies to help initiate and expand a comprehensive worksite wellness program. Also available are:

Model Worksites

With funding support from other state programs, the Initiative will provide technical assistance to aid in the establishment of model worksites across the state. These model worksites will serve to provide local examples of successful worksite-based programs to improve the health of working adults in Georgia.

Data Collection and Reporting

The 2001 Worksite Practices and Policies Survey was the first of its kind in Georgia and provided a statewide look at worksite factors that encourage and sustain healthy behaviors. The second worksite survey will be conducted in 2008 and the report available in 2009. The Initiative continues to gather information on worksites, including local examples of healthy worksites.

Partnerships

The Initiative seeks to bring together multiple stakeholders who are interested in worksite health and jointly give a voice to worksite efforts statewide. Georgia's Worksite Health Collaborative is a network of business leaders, wellness professionals, and others throughout the state who are interested in worksite health promotion. Sign up to receive the Worksite Health Promotion quarterly newsletter, e-mail updates, and to join online discussions.
