Training and Capacity Building

The Capacity Building (CB) Team supports and enhances HIV-related efforts by providing capacity building and other support services for Public Health Districts, County Health Departments, contractors, and other HIV-related agencies/organizations.

The CB Team is responsible for conducting and/or coordinating trainings and workshops. This includes HIV Counseling and Testing training, which prepares attendees to conduct HIV prevention counseling with individuals, provide HIV antibody testing services, and make referrals. (Note: This is mandatory training for Public Health staff responsible for HIV Counseling and Testing services). HIV prevention intervention training is usually conducted by national capacity building providers. The CB Team coordinates the training in Georgia.

The CB Team is also responsible for the following:

  • Conducting assessments/surveys to determine capacity building needs;
  • Routinely disseminating relevant information about training, funding opportunities, etc. to Public Health and other agencies (both funded and non-funded);
  • Linking individuals/agencies to needed resources; and
  • Providing related technical assistance and materials, such as guidance on policy/legal issues and distribution of HIV brochures mandated by state law.
