Infant Safe Sleep
CJ Foundation for SIDS
The CJ Foundation for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a nationwide voluntary
health organization dedicated to recognizing the special needs of the SIDS
community through funding SIDS research and support services. The Foundation
hopes to increase public awareness of SIDS and to contribute to a future in
which no parent is faced with the tragedy of losing a loved one to SIDS.
First Candle
First Candle exists to
promote infant health and survival during the prenatal period through two years
of age. This is done through advocacy, education and research. SIDS and Other
Infant Death bereavement services are a critical component of our mission.

Immunizations and SIDS
The following resources from the

indicate a causal relationship between SIDS and vaccines.
National SIDS Resource Center
The Center provides information services and technical assistance to promote
understanding of SIDS and provide comfort to those affected by SIDS through
information sharing. Sponsored by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB),
Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services, NSRC assists State MCHB-supported projects.
Safe to Sleep Campaign
This campaign is sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of
Child Health and Human Development, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the
American Academy of Pediatrics, the SIDS Alliance, and the Association of SIDS
and Infant Mortality Programs.

Family Support
African American Faith-based Bereavement
Initiative
While African
American families are disproportionately affected by stillbirth and infant
mortality, they are, overall, less likely to access bereavement support
resources. The African
American Faith-Based Bereavement Initiative (AAFBBI) was
created specifically for the African American Christian faith community to
improve supports for families experiencing these losses.
AGAST (Alliance of Grandparents A Support in
Tragedy)
AGAST provides grief support to grandparents of SIDS victims via trained peer
contacts (grandparents who have survived the experience) as well as support
groups and outreach. The internet site includes memorials, information, links to
discussion groups, support groups and grief support resources
Alive and Alone
Alive and Alone provides information and support to parents who become childless
after the death of one or more children.
Bereaved Parents of the USA
Provides help and support to families who lose children of any age and work with
grief at any stage. Healed parents serve as contacts and support group
facilitators.
Centering Corporation
Extensive catalogue of grief resources for children and adults including book
descriptions and indexes.
CLIMB (Center for Loss in Multiple Birth)
Climb provides support for parents who have lost one or more children from a
multiple birth.

Compassionate Friends of Atlanta, Georgia
The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families in the positive
resolution of grief following the death of a child and to provide information to
help others be supportive.
MISS Foundation
The MISS Foundation is a non-profit volunteer-based organization dedicated to
the emergency and ongoing support of grieving families who have lost an infant
or young child to any cause. The organization works to promote public awareness
to decrease infant mortality and to educate on grief surrounding death. They run
support groups around the country, advocate for legislation at the state level
and provide a wide variety of memorials and information exchange for families.
RAINBOWS
Non-profit international organization offering grief support services and
training for establishing grief support groups in schools, churches, synagogues,
hospitals or social service agencies. Programs available for children,
adolescents, and adults. Over 200 program sites in Georgia.
SIDS Network
Full service website providing support for those touched by SIDS and information
for public and professionals, peer counseling, support groups, counseling and
referrals. Literature, educational materials and public service announcements
are available.
The Dougy Center
This site for The National Center for Grieving Children & Families provides
helpful information and guidance about how to support grieving children and

Association of Death Education and Counseling
The Association for Death Education and Counseling is a multidisciplinary
professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in death education,
bereavement counseling and care of the dying. Based on theory and quality
research, ADEC provides information, support and resources to its multicultural
membership and, through them, to the public.
Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality
Programs
The Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs (ASIP, formerly ASPP,
Association of SIDS Program Professionals) is an association of health and human
service providers committed to bereavement support and risk reduction
activities. ASIP promotes programs of counseling, education, advocacy, and
research to ensure a supportive community response for those affected by infant
and child death and to reduce the risk of death for future children.
