Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Team


What is ArcReader?

ArcReader is free GIS "light" software that you can install and run on your computer. OHIP’s GIS Team has created interactive mapping interfaces that enable you to design, print, and copy/paste your own maps into other applications. You can visually analyze the data, including zooming in and out, and turning map layers on and off. You can also perform simple queries and distance measurements. If you are a Georgia Department of Public Health (DCH) employee and you would like the OHIP GIS Team to develop a custom ArcReader interface for you, please contact us by email (ohip@dhr.state.ga.us).

To view any of the ArcReader PMFs, you must download and install the ArcReader software.

Note: For DHR users at 2 Peachtree, the "live" ArcReader PMF files work with either ArcReader 9.1 or 9.2.
For all users outside 2 Peachtree, the stand-alone zipped PMFs are ArcReader version-dependent. To determine the version on your computer if you already have ArcReader installed, open the ArcReader software, click Help in the Menu bar, and then click About.

OHIP ArcReader Files

ArcSDE Inventory
With the ArcSDE Inventory ArcReader PMF, view map layers available to DHR employees. This file, intended for inventory purposes, as opposed to map design and production, serves data directly from the Arc Spatial Data Engine. You must have access to the DHR network to view the layers “live” on the SDE. For a complete list of map layers available to DHR employees, see the Spatial Data link.

“Live” ArcSDE ArcReader PMF

To obtain a stand-alone version of the ArcSDE ArcReader PMF, which does not require a network connection, DHR personnel should contact ohip@dhr.state.ga.us .


Agency Regions
Agency Regions overlays the regions of the following agencies: DHR, Public Health, Agencies on Aging, CMO, DFCS, EMS , MHDDAD, and perinatal regions.

Demographic Profiles
The Demographic Profiles map displays Demographic Clusters, as selected by the user. Individual profile layers may be toggled "on" and "off" as desired.

Demographic Profiles and Health Measures
The Profiles_Measures PMF displays Demographic Clusters along with various health measures, including the seven leading causes of years of potential life lost (YPLL), infant mortality, infant maltreatment, and teen births. The mapping interface facilitates exploration of how the health measures and demographic profiles are related in geographic space.
