Newborn Screening Unit
Test Results
When all testing is completed and the results verified, a final report is generated. The only exception is specimens that are sent to the Emory Genetics Laboratory for CF mutation analysis. In this case a report is generated that lists the mutation analysis as ‘Pending’, and a final report is generated when the results are received. Reports are printed and mailed the day that all results are verified. Reports are sent to the submitter (i.e., birth hospital) and the physician listed on the newborn screening form.
Beginning in July 2011 reports can be accessed electronically the same day that the results are verified via the eReports portal. Reports for specimens received prior to July 11, 2011 are available through the Voice Response System (VRS: 404-321-2293, 2294, or 2297). Client wishing to have access to the eReports portal can call 404-327-7950 and request a registration form. The results are also transmitted nightly to the State Electronic Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (SendSS) database, and are generally available the next day (https://sendss.state.ga.us/sendss/login.screen).
The reports list the Disorder and the associated Marker. If the results are within normal limits, the statement “Within Normal Limits” appears in the Result column, and “Normal” appears in the Determination column. If any results are outside normal limits, the report indicates which marker is abnormal, and a footnote appears in the Comments column. The text associated with the footnote, which explains the abnormal result, is located in the Recommended Actions section of the report below the result grid.
