ENVIRONMENTAL DATA LINKS
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently launched the National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. Currently, CDC funds 28 states and one city to conduct environmental public health tracking activities. Georgia is NOT a funded state and does not conduct tracking activities. In order to enhance the capacity of state public health agencies to conduct tracking related activities, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) offered the "Environmental Public Health Tracking: State-to-State Peer Fellowship Program.", and Georgia was selected to participate. For the Fellowship Program, ASTHO awarded Georgia funds during 2010 to:
- Assist non-funded state and territorial health agencies with gaining first-hand experience from their peers in states that are funded for tracking activities.
- Strengthen peer networks across state and territorial health agencies, and
- Explore ways to integrate environmental epidemiology/data collection activities of non-funded states into the National Tracking Network.
The Georgia Department of Public Health, Chemical Hazards Program, conducted several tracking activities with the assistance of ASTHO's Peer Fellowship Program. Below are links to environmental data that will provide the public with direct access to air, water, and soil data for tracking activities. In addition, public health outcome data can be found at the Division of Public Health's standardized health data repository, OASIS.
