Environmental Health - Non-Public Well Program
Waterborne Disease and Outbreak
Investigation
The detection and reporting of waterborne disease outbreaks
are crucial precursors to the overall goal of preventing waterborne illness. The
failure to detect, investigate, and report waterborne illness clusters is a
major barrier to the successful surveillance of waterborne disease outbreaks in
Georgia. Georgia's Non-Public Well Program
works with DPH Offices of Environmental Health and Epidemiology to provide
assistance and technical guidance for waterborne disease outbreak investigations
in various settings (restaurants, water wells, recreational swimming pools,
untreated recreational water, institutional settings, etc).
Reporting Water Related Illness Complaints:
If you have a food or water related illness complaint, you
can contact the local
County Environmental Health. These complaints are reviewed for
investigations and to identify potential clusters of illness. Complaint forms
are sent by the County Health Department to the State Environmental Health
Office via fax (404-657-6516) or online through the Digital Health Department's
Illness Complaint Form.
Reporting Waterborne Diseases (clinically confirmed):
Report any cluster of illness to the
Office of Epidemiology, through
their
Notifiable Disease/Condition Reporting Form.
Visit the
Epidemiology Office's
website for statistics and information on all of Georgia's reportable
diseases.
