Stressed Out?
Stress can often get in the way of our efforts to make positive changes. Think about how easy it is to skip your daily exercise routine or forget healthy eating habits when you have a big project at work or family demands.
Manage your stress.
Look for ways to minimize your stress.
- Practice saying NO and try to say yes only to the things that are important to you
- Manage your time by staying organized and planning ahead
- Share some of the work load with others
- Set attainable and realistic goals that you can reach one step at a time
- Think about the things that are stressful and plan how to handle them or work around them
- Reach out to people for help or just to talk
- Try not to get upset about things that do not matter in the "big picture" - don't sweat the small stuff!
- Think about the good things in your life
- Go for a walk or get your body moving
Because stress is inevitable, find healthy ways to deal with stress.

- Scream out loud in a place where no one can hear you
- Breathe slowly, meditate and/or find a quiet place to think or get away
- Close your eyes and think of a peaceful place
- Laugh or find humor in your stressful situation
- Read a good book
- Call a friend and talk about the stress
- Schedule something fun that you like to do - so you can look forward to that activity
- Look for the light at the end of the tunnel
- Write down the stressful situation and develop a plan of action - focus on what you CAN change
Relaxation Techniques
- Breathe …long, deep breaths
- Go for a walk in a garden, cemetery or other peaceful place
- Listen to soft music and sing quietly along
- Meditate or pray
- Take a long/hot bath and read a book or magazine
- Spend quiet time alone and think of something relaxing
- Practice yoga regularly
