Step It Up!

Walking is a great way to move more. Let's face it, even the "athletically challenged" can walk. All you really need to get started is a pair of comfortable shoes.

To maintain health, most experts recommend walking 10,000 steps a day, the equivalent to about five miles. This may seem like a lot, but you can do it! Keep in mind, 10,000 steps is the total for the entire day.

Track your steps using a pedometer. Increase steps gradually - about 500 per day until you reach 10,000 per day. Use the daily log to track your progress. Learn more about pedometers. (link to Using a Pedometer - DHR pdf document)
