Yes I Can! The Power of a Positive Attitude
Whether you are trying to be more active, eat healthy or stop smoking, a positive attitude can help. Negative thoughts or self-defeating attitudes may not only be detrimental to our health, but can also sabotage efforts to make positive lifestyle changes.
Do any of these statements sound like you?

 |
- "I always eat too much so I am always going to be big and there's nothing I can do about it."
- "It's been a week since I exercised, so there is no use in exercising now."
- "This is too hard. If I smoke another cigarette, I am just going to give up."
It takes practice, but re-think these negative thoughts.
Think Again…
- "I ate a lot today. I need to go for an extra long walk and remember that tomorrow is another today."
- "I've had a week off, but I am ready to get back to my walking routine. If I don't have time, I'll at least ask my coworker to walk around the park before we pick up lunch."
- "Giving up smoking is a lot harder than I thought, but I know I can do this. After all, if she can do it, so can I. Next time I feel like having a smoke, I will call the Quit Line or go for a walk."
As you make positive changes towards a healthier you, use positive self-talk. You'll be surprised at what a difference a positive outlook can make.
