DPH Commissioner Names New WIC Director
Commissioner Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D., announced on Tuesday, December 6, that
Brian C. Castrucci will permanently assume the roles and responsibilities of the
director of WIC, in addition to his existing duties as Director of Maternal and
Child Health. In assuming this role, Mr. Castrucci’s primary responsibilities
will be maintaining and improving DPH’s relationships with vendors, advocates
and federal funders, and ensuring that the program continues to move in a
direction consistent with the Commissioner’s vision for DPH.
Ga. Public Health Scientist Advances in Certification
Congratulations are in order for Arthur Hagar, PhD, Supervisor for
Chemistry/Hematology in the Georgia Public Health Laboratory, for passing the
ABB certification test as a High Complexity Laboratory Director. This provides
eligibility for Clinical Laboratory Director under both Georgia and the Clinical
Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988. Dr. Hagar's dedication to the State
of Georgia and to the Public Health Laboratory's newborn screening program is
commendable.
