Survivor Competition
Nov. 5-Jan 11
If weight loss (or just not gaining weight) during the holidays is
your goal, then join us for the DPH Holiday Survivor Competition!
Teams of four will compete to lose weight Nov. 5-Jan. 11 The
competition is open to state DPH employees and weigh-ins will be
Nov. 1 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 2 Peachtree and Nov. 2 from 2:30-4
p.m. at Clairmont Lab. Biweekly weigh-ins will be held at each
location. Prizes for the top 3 percent weight loss for team and
individual will be awarded. Team registration forms are available at

Lunch 'n' Learn: Boosting Your Metabolism Through
Resistance
Training!
Nov. 7 at Noon
2 Peachtree, Room 10-104A
Did you know that one pound of muscle burns an average of 50
calories compared to one pound of fat, which burns only five
calories? November is American Diabetes Month and resistance
training has been proven to help in the management of the diabetes,
decrease the effects of aging and is critical for men and women as
we age. There will also be a repeat of this class Nov. 9 at noon via
webinar for offsite locations. Please register in

Ryan Cameron Foundation 5th Annual Youth Health Fair
Nov. 3
11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The Gallery at South DeKalb, 2801 Candler Road, Decatur
Free testing for BMI, diabetes, sickle cell anemia and other
concerns will be provided, along with free vision and dental
screenings. Immunization records are required. Free giveaways
including lunch boxes and jump ropes will also be distributed.
Atlanta Local Food Initiative Summit
Nov. 8
8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Atlanta Botanical Garden
Learn about Atlanta Local Food Initiative's plan for a sustainable
food future at Setting Atlanta's Table: A Food System Summit. Topics
of discussion include sustainable institutional food service, urban
agriculture start-ups, bringing local food to communities, food
system issues for health care professionals, and education and
outreach. Registration is $46 after Oct. 22, fee includes lunch.

Free Fitness Classes
DPH offers group exercise classes everyday at 2 Peachtree. Classes
include dance, kickboxing, yoga, walking and more. Classes are open
on a first come, first served basis and there is no need to
