OIP Helps Emory University Reach Safe Community Designation
The National Safety Council has designated Emory University as a Safe
Community through its Safe Communities America program. Emory University is just
the second academic institution in the U.S. to be recognized as an international
Safe Community and the first on the East Coast. The designation is for the work
of the Emory Safety Alliance and encompasses all things related to injuries,
prevention, response and control including everything from emergency
preparedness to sexual assault prevention and pedestrian safety.
The Department
of Public Health – Office of Injury Prevention helped make this designation
possible with $4,000 of funding in one of their grants to address the safety of
pedestrians crossing Clifton Road, a busy street on Emory’s campus. Watch more
about this impressive designation
