Rosemarie B. Newman Nutrition Extra Mile Award

Donna Wilson, East Central Public Health District
Donna Wilson received the Rosemarie B. Newman Nutrition Extra Mile Award at the Georgia Public Health Association Awards Luncheon on April 13. This award recognizes a public health employee for making significant contributions in the delivery of nutrition services in the community. Donna was nominated by Dot Hart, nutrition services director, for her passionate and dedicated service to the East Central Public Health community in the area of breastfeeding promotion.

To name a few of her accomplishments, in the summer of 2011, Donna, with assistance from the members of the CSRA Breastfeeding Coalition, Inc., wrote a grant to increase breastfeeding support projects in the Central Savannah River Area. The grant, titled Breastfeeding Works with Support, which was subsequently awarded to the Breastfeeding Coalition in August 2011, provided $25,000 for 10 projects. In 2007, she encouraged the Breastfeeding Coalition to initiate the Employers Supporting Breastfeeding Mothers Project. A small grant from the March of Dimes was secured by the CSRA Breastfeeding Coalition Inc. and used to print packets designed to educate employers about the significant benefits associated with supporting breastfeeding mothers who were returning to employment after delivery.

Please join us in congratulating Donna for her outstanding service and contributions to the East Central Public Health District.
