Inaugural State of Public Health Conference
The
inaugural 2013 State of Public Health Conference will be
March 21 at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center in Athens.
Tyler Norris, vice president of Total Health Partnerships at
Kaiser Permanente, will give the keynote presentation, along
with DPH Commissioner Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, who will give
the plenary presentation. The event is sponsored by the

One Health
Symposium
The
University of Georgia Biomedical and Health Sciences
Institute and Faculty of Infectious Diseases, along with the
University of Liverpool, will host the first international
One Health Symposium March 21-23 at the UGA Center for
Continuing Education. The event will bring together
researchers, human and animal health care practitioners,
clinicians and experts in microbiology, infectious diseases,
disease ecology, human and veterinary medicine,
environmental health, public health, health policy and
wildlife to discuss disease diagnosis and health practice.
"Breaking Barriers and Crossing Scales" is this year's
theme. Microbiome, host-pathogen-host interactions and
biodiversity and infection will be discussed during the

12th
Annual Parks & Greenspace Conference
The 12th annual Parks & Greenspace Conference will be
March 25 at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Richard Jackson,
M.D., MPH, is the keynote speaker. Jackson is professor
and chair of the Department of Environmental Health
Sciences at UCLA's Fielding School of Public Health.
Conference activities include breakout sessions, a
Beltline walking tour and picnic lunch in the garden.

Voices for Georgia's Children will host United Against
Childhood Obesity Day at the Capitol March 27 from 9
a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The event is designed to build
awareness among state legislators about the prevalence
of childhood obesity in Georgia and the need to reverse
the problem.

Morehouse School of Medicine's Dr. Daniel S.
Blumental Annual Public Health Summit, "Preventing Obesity
through the Life Stages," will be April 2-3, 2013. DPH
Commissioner Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D., is a featured speaker.

Disaster Preparedness forFaith-based Communities
The first 72 hours, a free disaster preparedness summit
for leaders of faith-based communities will be April 11
from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Changing a Generation Church, 3350

DPH offers group exercise classes every day at 2 Peachtree.
Classes include dance, kickboxing, yoga, walking and more.
Classes are open on a first come, first served basis and
there is no need to pre-register.
