NTSB Calls for Cell Phone Ban While Driving
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) called for all states to impose total bans on the non-emergency use of all personal electronic devices while driving. The NTSB issued its recommendation following a meeting on a 2010 multi-vehicle crash in Missouri that killed two and injured 38. NTSB's investigation revealed that the pickup driver received 11 text messages in the 11 minutes preceding the collision, with the last text received only moments before the crash. Currently, 35 states (including Georgia) ban texting and 9 ban the use on hand-held phones, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.
