Georgia 2009-2011 HAI Prevention Plan

The Georgia HAI Prevention Plan includes the following:

• Establish a HAI Advisory Committee of medical experts and other stakeholders.
• Establish a starting point
• Focus first on acute care hospitals and adding other healthcare settings in phase II
• Focus first on reducing central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and selected surgical site infections (SSIs) with consideration of other goals in phase II
• Use NHSN surveillance system to establish a state baseline and follow trends
• Invite Georgia hospitals to join NHSN and begin reporting data. Some states require HAI reporting (mandated reporting), but reporting in Georgia is voluntary. CDC’s NHSN system enables hospitals to compare their results with a national benchmark.
• Invite Georgia NSHN users to join the Georgia State NHSN Users’ Group (G-SNUG) within NHSN. The joining of G-Snug will enable GDPH to assist hospitals in reducing HAIs.
• Encourage hospitals to join collaboratives focused on HAI reduction, and to use CDC’s toolkits to target HAI reduction efforts.
