Goals

  • To collect information on physical activity patterns for the State of Georgia.
  • To develop tools and collect data on prevention policies and environments affecting levels of physical activity.
  • To make data reports available to the public and health care professionals.
  • To provide physical activity data to relevant health promotion programs including the Cardiovascular Health Initiative to develop strategies and evaluate their effectiveness.

Levels of Physical Activity among Adults
The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a state-based surveillance system, has been gathering information about levels of physical activity among adults and related risk factors since 1984.

Levels of Physical Activity among Youth
The Georgia Student Health Survey [CDC's Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)] obtains information from a random sample of public middle and high school students about the prevalence and age of initiation of various health risk behaviors including physical activity.
